It begins with the modernists -- Pound, Yeats, Williams, Stein, etc. -- and works its way up to contemporary poets' views on art and artists by individuals like Ashbery, Strand, Merrill, and others. Thanks for recommending this book to everyone.Edward Byrnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09840825927726253150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746549356331646438.post-90081558015831550072009-03-16T09:28:00.000-05:002009-03-16T09:28:00.000-05:00Hi Ed, John Brumfield in Philadelphia here. Just a quick note re Hartigan on O'Hara.
On the flip side, there's an anthology of essays self-explanatorily titled "Poets on Painters" edited by J.D. McClatchy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746549356331646438.post-41995802437378070442009-03-16T04:10:00.000-05:002009-03-16T04:10:00.000-05:00How wonderful to see this connection studied furth...How wonderful to see this connection studied further. I am both a poet and a painter, and for years have had to face people's typical questions: Are you primarily a poet or a painter. And for years I've answered: I'm both poet and painter; I'm both woman and human; I'm both hungry and thirsty.

My quest for connecting the two arts began as a child, and continued in my PhD dissertation (which was about Ekphrasis) and is ongoing now - in my poems, my paintings, my life.

Recently, I have developed a new technique I call Synthe-Art, which synthesizes painting and photography (the visual) with poetry and writing (the verbal).

Reconciliation is not the purpose, nor is the struggle between the two. It is the sheer existence that matters, and its impact.

Dr. Shurooq Amin
www.theapetalouspoet.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746549356331646438.post-78082608935303249472009-03-15T10:17:00.000-05:002009-03-15T10:17:00.000-05:00I have been fortunate to have an going relationshi...I have been fortunate to have an going relationship with a photographer friend, and I understand the glorious freedom of collaborating across media with someone. There is no competition, just the joy of crossing the membrane from one art form to another and experiencing the result. Thank you for this post, Ed, and the heads up about the new book. As always, you are amazingly generous to us all with these posts. Last year we produced a book, Resonance, with poems beside the paintings they responded to, and did a reading and exhibition with the poetry beside the visual works; this year, we're repeating the reading and exhibition but doing a DVD.

Since both arts make considerable use of symbol and intuition, it's not surprising so many find these correspondences.

-- John OughtonEdward Byrnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09840825927726253150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-746549356331646438.post-61376814605071592032009-03-15T09:36:00.000-05:002009-03-15T09:36:00.000-05:00Just a quick note, Ed, to thank you for the contin...Just a quick note, Ed, to thank you for the continuing excellence of your One Poet's Notes blog.
