Judges' Citation: "Poetry from Paradise Valley is an excellent anthology that features world-class poetry, including the work of many artists from the Midwest, such as Jared Carter, Annie Finch, David Baker, and Allison Joseph. It’s an eclectic and always interesting collection where poems on similar themes flow into each other. It showcases the highest caliber of U. S. poetry."

Bethany Schultz Hurst: "Ice Cave, Shoshone, Idaho"

The VPR Poem of the Week is Bethany Schultz Hurst’s “Ice Cave, Shoshone, Idaho,” which appeared in the Fall/Winter 2011-2012 issue (Volume XIII, Number 1) of Valparaiso Poetry Review.

Bethany Schultz Hurst’s poems appear or are forthcoming in journals such as 5am, Gettysburg Review, Rattle, Smartish Pace and RHINO. She teaches writing and literature at Idaho State University.

Tuesday of each week One Poet’s Notes highlights an excellent work by a poet selected from the issues of Valparaiso Poetry Review, except when other posts with news or updates preempt the usual appearance of this item, with the recommendation that readers revisit it.
